Vichar Samiti is working with 500 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs), in Bundelkhand region,
who are on a transformational journey. They are in the process of manufacturing 5,00,000 diyas and
idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha for Diwali. These diyas and idols are manure-based
and completely eco-friendly. Through this environmentally sustainable initiative, these women hope
to make a living for themselves and it is an important step for them in becoming financially
independent.
Our History
The women were previously employed in tobacco factories. This is harmful, not just for the ones
who consume it, but also for the ones who manufacture it. Vichar Sanstha helped the women realise
this and they embarked on a journey to earn a living for themselves, through an eco-friendly and
dignified way.
When women become financially independent, it improves the standard of living and lifestyle of
their family, increases funds for their children’s education and even old-age funds. Financially
independent women have more exposure and opportunities to take decisions that are right for them
and this helps them in overcoming hurdles in life. The way people perceive a woman also changes
positively, when she chooses to become independent, especially financially.
This is why this project of empowering women, taken up by. Vichar Sanstha, is so important and
powerful. Vichar Sanstha hopes to help these women shape their lives, through the sale of diyas and
idols that are being hand-made by them.
